A Practical Guide to Real Estate Commission Tracking

A commission record is more useful when it connects to the property, transaction and participating professionals.

Record the agreed plan

Maintain the rate or fixed fee and the participants associated with the deal. Do not confuse a projected commission with an earned or paid amount.

Make split participants clear

Brokerage, broker, salesperson, co-broker and referral participation can differ by transaction. Keep allocations documented and restricted to authorized users.

Reconcile payments

Track how much has been invoiced, collected or remains outstanding. Review changes and payment references as part of the deal history. Commission rules should be reviewed against agreements and applicable requirements before use.
